2008-2011   Green Park Station Step Free Access, London

The aim of the proposal is to improve existing access and to provide step free access to Green Park Tube Station. The Station is an important interchange for Piccadilly, Victoria and Jubillee lines and also provides a surface interchange facilities with public bus transport. The unique location of the station on the edge of Green Park has determined a design approach far exceeding standard provision of new lifts and stairways and embraced a masterplan strategy to regenerate the Station public realm. The existing structural constraints and engineering requirements resulted in limited means of architectural expression.
The architectural / urban concept was to provide a roof canopy acting as a unifying landmark to all existing elements of the Station at street level, a new glazed lift and a new entrance to the Station ticket hall. A new ramp was proposed to integrate the tube station with Green Park and to provide a generous access direct to Ticket hall bellow street level. The ramp is seen as a significant landscape element to Green Park, an inspiration derived from 19th century park avenues, and a new type of public space which responds to the ever increasing number of park visitors.
